The Department of Justice announced money laundering charges against three Russian citizens for running U.S.-sanctioned cryptocurrency mixing services Blender and Sinbad, which were allegedly used by North Korean hackers to hide cryptocurrency proceeds from cybertheft. Two of the gang members were arrested last month, but the last one remains at large. Brent S. Wible, head of the Justice Department's criminal division, said the encryption mixers were used by state-sponsored hackers.
The Department of Justice (DOJ) of the Philippines has charged two Russian citizens with stealing 340 million Philippine pesos ($6.20 million) worth of XRP cryptocurrency from a local cryptocurrency exchange. The suspects allegedly hacked into Coins.ph system to commit the theft. According to the charges filed with the Taguig Regional Trial Court, the defendants Vladimir Evgenevich Avbeyv and Sergey Yaschuck will face charges under Republic Act No. 10175, Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.
